The Winning Score on Czech Masters Will Range From -10 to -15
“This project is the Champions League. From the side of RELMOST it is prepared from A to Z,” – a powerful comparison with this prestigious football competition made by Miguel Vidaor on the status of preparations of the D+D REAL Czech Masters. He came to check the situation one day after his favorite Barcelona got knocked out from the Champions League and it seemed his mood improved significantly at Albatross.
“I’m excited. All adjustments that I recommended at Albatross during my visit in September have been done. Promoter Petr Dedek and his team are working at full speed and all crucial points have been met according to our vision,” summed up Vidaor.
Spaniard Miguel Vidaor is one of the seven European Tour tournament directors, the head of seven tournaments, and he is back in charge in the Czech Republic after three years.
“I was the tournament director in Marianske Lazne in the 90s and I was responsible for the Czech Open in Celadna but the current situation cannot be compared with the previous events. Here it feels as if you could start playing tomorrow.”
Vidaor will share the authority with the sports director of RELMOST David Trunda, on and off the golf course. This is a demonstration of trust from the side of the European Tour team, who are very satisfied with the preparations.
Over the winter, there were several major structural modifications done at the Albatross golf resort. There is 500 tons of new sand that has been transported on the golf course; two kilometers of new drainage system have been added. These will drain all the water away and prevent the creation of puddles on the golf course. The size of the bunker near the 7th green has been doubled and fairways have been narrowed.
“One will note the difference at the 18th hole, for example. When standing by the black tee markers, you will spot the narrow space for landing of the ball between two water hazards,” points out Stanislav Lorenz, General Manager of at Albatross Golf Resort.
“The course has become more challenging after the performed adjustments. It will require a precise and strategic game. Naturally, the game can also be influenced by the weather and the strength of the wind which is quite frequent in this area. My guess is that the winning score will range from -10 to -15,”predicts Vidaor.
“It was not just about checking the course itself, we also discussed other technical details of the preparations, such as the setting of the Tented Village. We received important information regarding the allocation of golf cards after the deadline of signing up for tournament entry. It will be on July 31st. After that it will be up to us to decide who is to participate in the tournament. This applies especially to golfers who drop out of the FedEx Cup last minute and would want to give it a try in Europe. We believe that this could even bring us an unexpected golf star last minute before the tournament,” explains Petr Dedek, chairman of the board of RELMOST promoter agency.
According to Vidaor, Prague will be the main attraction for the players: “The position of the golf course nearby the capital city will definitely help the tournament. For the players it is attractive to come see Prague and bring their families. In addition, the airport is only a 20 minute drive from Albatross and, at the same time, it takes 30 minutes to get to their hotel. The return of the European Tour will affect the future of golf in the Czech Republic. These events will motivate young players. Prague as a tourist destination is well known, but Prague as a golf destination – that is something new. It will open new business opportunities for the country.”
