Special Cargo – 12,000 Golf Balls for Czech Masters

DB Schenker has become the logistics partner of the D+D REAL Czech Masters tournament, which makes part of the European Tour. Details about how the golf balls and score cards will be transported and how logistics at sports events is dealt with have been revealed to us by Tomas Holomoucky, the Director of DB Schenker in the Czech Republic.

This year’s tournament is approaching, and even though few realize it, all the logistical preparations are already underway.

“Logistics is a complex process of planning, it is no longer just about transporting from point A to point B. We are in charge of all the logistics related to the tournament.  In advance we must coordinate the transportation of furniture, all the equipment, tents and barriers. Moreover we provide transport of material and equipment for other sponsor, „says TomasHolomoucky.

All the way from England, DB Schenker is going to transport more than 12,000 golf balls, as well as official score cards and birdie cards. The golf balls have been designated for the driving range of the Albatross golf course where the European Tour tournament is to be held.

“This is the biggest sports event on the Czech territory for us. Coincidentally, the Czech Masters event is taking place only four kilometersaway from our new headquarters and warehouse in Rudna u Prahy.  It is an honor for us to provide support and cooperate with an event of such scale. We choose events where we feel we can not only get involved as a partner, but also contribute with our experience,” adds TomasHolomoucky .

The game of golf reveals the true nature of man
The plan is also to create a backup parking lot for the visitors of the Czech Masters within the premises of the DB Schenker logistics complex in Rudna.

“The entire area including the terminal meets high safety standards; therefore we are more than happy to provide the outdoor area and the facilities for purposes convenient for the players and organizers.  We are also contemplating the possibility to arrange transportation from Zlicin metro stop straight to the Albatross resort. Our company is part of Deutsche Bahn and the affiliated company called Arriva caters bus transportation. ”

Director of DB Schenker TomasHolomoucky ranks among recreational golfers
“The time spent on the course is a form of relaxation for me when I am able to recharge some energy. Besides that, playing with your business partners, you can easily talk about both life and business. The thing I like about golf is that it reveals the true nature of man quite well. Golf is a fair game with strictly given rules. ”

The player Tomas Holomoucky is excited to see the most is the Scot Stephen Gallacher. ´´I would love to play in the same flight with him at the Pro-Am tournament. ´´

“Given the importance of the tournament and the presence of some truly great players, I believe the event is a good opportunity to present ourselves and invite our business partners.”

Starting gatespositioned by helicopter

DB Schenker has a wealth of experience with organizing sports projects and social events.  The company has been the official partner of the summer and winter Olympic Games globally.

´´It is a very specific task. We have to safely secure the transportation of materials and sports equipment, as well as technical equipment for all the television crews. For the winter Olympic Games in Turin, we had to place the starting gates on top of the downhill ski slopes with a helicopter; to Soci we had to transport a giant laundry and a supply of PlzenskyPrazdroj beer for the Czech Olympic House.´´

In the case a highly valuable or fragile shipment is carried, it is important to ensure a safe container to prevent any damage. When transporting bobsleighs for the Winter Olympics, for example, DB Schenker worked closely with the Czech bobsleighing team in order to produce suitable wooden boxes to protect the shipment from any damage.

“When talking about sports, there are several other events that come to my mind besides the Olympic Games. We provide logistics support for the European championship in football, in the Czech Republic we are partners of the popular Jizerska 50, the Grand Prix Motorcycle Racing in Brno or the International Triathlon in Karlovy Vary. We organize our own golf tournaments and participate in various charity golf events for the Leontynka Foundation and Paraplegic Center.”

The future lies in innovation, flexibility and environmental solutions
According to Tomas Holomoucky, DB Schenker is one of the few companies on this market that is actually growing. It manages to do so due to a stable background and motivated employees. ´´We have been working with some of the most demanding clients in the field. Our company is one of the creators of the logistics market and strives to stay innovative. We put great emphasis on environmentally friendly solutions, such as railways or combined transportation. Management-wise we are a large corporation, but we are still doing our best to stay flexible. ´´

Safety is another area of focus for the company
´´It is extremely important to always have the shipment under control. According to statistics, a theft during transportation happens every two and a half minutes in Europe.  That is the reason behind our thorough use of surveillance cameras, modern technology and safety systems. Our trucks are equipped with special safety sensors.  We offer the Smartbox safety solution to our clients. It is a black box for shipments, which monitors the temperature, humidity, vibrations, slant or an unauthorized entry. The client can monitor the advancement of the shipment online and control where it is located at a given moment. ´´

DB Schenker is one of the world’s leading logistics company. It employs over 91,000 associates in 130 countries.

“We are part of an international group DB Schenker Logistics with branches all over the world and employ a large number ofexperts experienced in use of the latest modern technologies.  As we like to say: we can carry anything from a pin to the locomotive. We offer various added-value services to our clients, such as lighting assembly, packaging or labeling. That applies to the automobile industry too. In the Czech Republic, we have 800 employees in 17 offices, of which 10 are logistics warehouses, ´´concludes Tomas Holomoucky.
